12. Hocus Pocus (Focus)
This one came courtesy of my old friend David. Years ago, I went to his place for dinner and he gave me this cd. I've carried it with for for all these years. It's part of a series called Baby Boomer Classics, and it's basically songs you would here if you listened to a typical classic rock station for about 2 hours. It's just like a radio station without the commercials. I don't really listen to it much because the songs are everywhere, but it does come in handy if I need to learn a song from it.
So thanks, Dave. I don't have many things from the days when we kind of ran Redondo Beach with our guitars on the Strand, but I do have this. Kinda cool. [First added to this chart: 07/01/2025]

7. I Can't Tell You Why
8. New Kid In Town
9. The Long Run
10. After The Thrill Is Gone
It's not like every person in the world didn't have copies of Hotel California and The Long Run by 1982, but for those who didn't, this was the perfect collection...all of the late period Eagles songs you'd ever need. And together with Volume 1, you can enjoy them without any of their album filler. Of course, there are many good tracks you'd miss out on...but I'm rambling.
The best part about Vol. 2 is "Seven Bridges Road", the lone track from their mostly ignored live album from 1980, released immediately after their breakup. The song features tight 5 part harmonies, and is one of the better examples of the band's great vocal abilities...even though it has been propped up a lot by studio overdubs. As for the rest, you can get all of the songs easily enough on decent albums, so unless you're on a budget and don't like much more than the hits, you could probably do without this. 20. Suddenly There's A Valley
The Drifters have been around for over 60 years now, with more than 60 different members. It's become over the years more of a corporation than a group, but their employees are all really good. This collection goes back to the very beginning, before the years of Ben E. King. It's one of the more impressive collections of 50's doo wop you'll ever find. The first disc covers the time of Clyde McPhatter, a Rock & Roll Hall Of Famer who is maybe the best singer from that time. Disc 2 covers the years leading up to King.
McPhatter's vocals are angelic, and the rest of the group's harmonies are just as good. You'll be hooked by the end of the first line on "Lucille". Disc 2 is almost as good. Also included are good (but very small) liner notes. If you're a fan of music from this period, it's as good as it gets. [First added to this chart: 12/31/2024]
