In the process of updating the descriptions, it probably won't be where I want it to be until early '26
anyways, of course this is always a work in progress
glad to still see this site alive after all these years :)

This album brings back memories you wish you had. It captures the essence of August-October perfectly, it's meditative all while present. Dreamy indie rock with a slight beachy-feel, you can't go wrong with it. It does have a similar vibe throughout, but it's one that's truly unique and one that I can't stop coming back to.
From Cutting My Fingers Off:
"To make you go
To make you go, to make you go
I never wanted to make you go
You might be a stranger now
And I just wanted to let you know
That I meant what I said
And every dream I've ever had has been of myself
And every dream I've ever had's been of a
Better view with a ten month summer
Losing you is like cutting my fingers off
And even with that summer
Without you I'd rather cut my fingers off" [First added to this chart: 12/28/2019]
Pastel art in the form of music, this is quite possibly the prettiest album I have ever heard. These songs evoke a time and a place, a specific time and place, like no other album does. Everything on this record feels ethereally abstract but totally tangible. The use of dynamics here really helps to sell that point and is best observed on the final track. This record makes me feel like I am on a field in Iceland, lying down and staring at the sky, nothing but wondrous divine thought.
"Christmas night, it clutched the light, the hallow bright
Above my brother, I, and tangled spines
We smoked the screen to make it what it was to be
Now, to know it in my memory
And at once, I knew
I was not magnificent" [First added to this chart: 08/16/2019]
This album is a punch to the heart, mind, and soul. Many of the lyrics and stories on this record remind me much of my own life with how honest they are. The self-doubt, self-destruction, and earnest self-hatred all come through really well on every song that touches on those topics. In addition, his imagery about his life growing up in a small town is always on point and avoids a lot of the modern tropes. This, in a way, is very much so a coming-of-mind album in how these thoughts seem to be those that would come up at a personal crossroad. The whole album is a highlight, but the main one here is Sweet DeAnn. The songwriting is heart-breaking but also optimistic, and I think that's a good way to describe this album.
"I need calling you right about now
Tell you stories of a pretty fine gal
Remind you of the things that your boy's into
How he looks and he acts and he talks like you
This world's not meant for showin' mercy
I got pictures of us that hurt me
Cause I'm squeezin' you and you're smilin' through
That flash up on the wall" [First added to this chart: 04/24/2020]

Human gratification, this is emotional unity. Blonde is definitely a landmark for my generation and the lyrics and vibes are already classic.
From White Ferrari:
"I'm sure we're taller in another dimension
You say we're small and not worth the mention
You're tired of movin', your body's achin'
We could vacay, there's places to go
Clearly this isn't all that there is
Can't take what's been given
But we're so okay here, we're doing fine
Primal and naked
You dream of walls that hold us in prison
It's just a skull, least that's what they call it
And we're free to roam" [First added to this chart: 08/29/2016]
One of the cornerstones of my life, this album has been through everything with me. Sonically, it's a seamless blend of several different styles of r&b with hip-hop. It's perfectly lush, atmospheric vibe sets the mood for any memory that you'll remember for the ret of your life.
What sets this apart from every other record is the warmth. This isn't the same warmth that I (and many others) will reference when talking about other records, this just feels right for me. In any occasion, I can through on any of these songs and I know that it will fit whichever mood I want it to. It's unbelievably comforting but so easy to throw on a party, all at the same time. I believe that it is that dichotomy that pushes this so high in my mind. It is everything I could ever want from both genres of r&b and rap.
"I was just calling, ‘cause they were just leavin'
Talk to me, please, don't have much to believe in
I need you right now, are you down to listen to me?
Too many drinks have been given to me
I got some women that's livin' off me
Paid for their flights and hotels, I'm ashamed
Bet that you know them, I won't say no names
After a while, girl, they all seem the same
I've had sex four times this week; I'll explain
Havin' a hard time adjustin' to fame
Sprite in that mixture
I've been talkin' crazy, girl, I'm lucky that you picked up
Lucky that you stayed on
I need someone to put this weight on
'Well, I'm sorry.'"
"But jealousy is just love and hate at the same time
Yeah, it's been that way from the beginning
I just been playing, I ain't even notice I was winning
And this is the only sound you should fear
Man, these kids wear crowns over here and everything is alright" [First added to this chart: 11/04/2015]
This is one incredible love letter to music. This is one pounding record, this makes it a perfect record for driving across America. This is just as much a heartland rock record as it is a country record, but there’s a ton of variety here. If I could describe country with one record, this would be it.
From Three Year Old:
“"Mama is an angel," I heard him tell the man upstairs
He went on and on and back and forth
Like God was laying there
Tonight, I sleep me down to lay and pray to keep my soul
Yeah, I learned that from a three year old”
From Mr. Misunderstood:
“Had an axe to grind, so off I went
Mad at the sun for coming up again
I lost religion, found my soul in the blues
Rubbed the velvet off my blue suede shoes
Yeah, everybody held up their hands
And every soul on Beale Street danced
With Mr. Misunderstood, Mr. Misunderstood” [First added to this chart: 04/24/2020]

Top 100 Greatest Music Albums ratings
Average Rating = (n ÷ (n + m)) × av + (m ÷ (n + m)) × AVwhere:
av = trimmed mean average rating an item has currently received.
n = number of ratings an item has currently received.
m = minimum number of ratings required for an item to appear in a 'top-rated' chart (currently 10).
AV = the site mean average rating.

Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)
This chart is rated in the top 1% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 91.9/100, a mean average of 92.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 92.8/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 7.7.

I love not being able to guess what album is going to come next. Great blend of tried and true classic, moderns gems, and complete oddball picks. My favorite kind of charts!
As already mentioned, a unique chart and a distinctive feel to it. I like it
I like this chart a lot. There is a uniquely special feeling when you discover an artist (or 2) that flies under the radar of commercial success and hits at the heartstrings in a uniquely personal way. This chart is full of such artists/albums ¬ and well worth a deep dive rather than a cursory glance.
The Australian album in this list - Go Further Into Darkness - is well worth a listen. Of the 2 albums we have in common, this is one of them.
Great and unique and individual chart with some really intriguing recommendations.
Very interesting choice it is a good chart with underrated pearls.
Most interesting list. 90% of artists I know nothing about
One of my favorite spiritual guidance in the internet is this chart right here. King.
I will now listen to that Zach Bryan album.
Holy shit what an absolutely bananas list. It goes fucking everywhere and never stops to... Impress? Like, I feel in a way that this many obscure picks would feel forced, as if it's trying too hard to be special, but in a way I also feel it's all coming from a genuine place. Nonetheless, props to you! This'll definitely be my go-to place for when I need some new stuff to listen to.
Also, amongst everything, mad respect to someone with แห่สดดนตรีพื้นบ้านหนองโก ชุดที่ 8 + 9 in their chart. I salute you.
