Top 100 Greatest Music Albums
by Omid

This is a list of greatest albums I’ve ever heard,I had previously created a list that would merely keep me alive in a deserted island, now this one can revive my spirit after my death(as might be expected I haven’t put it to the test yet!)Now I’m looking for elixir of immortality and eternal youth!any recommendations would be appreciated and any opinions are welcome here,in fact I like arguing about my picks.

If someone asks me to name a masterpiece,Electric Ladyland would probably be my first answer, however I admire this masterpiece for personal reasons.Mostly I believe Hendrix was the only true genius of his era.Favorite track:All Along the Watchtower [First added to this chart: 05/21/2011]

It's what I want from music,I really like these emotions spreading through my thoughts. It contains a healing power, something like a meditation through music.Anyway all I say is it's really great. And I believe its little sister Antics is nowhere near this quality of Turn On... .Favorite track:Say Hello To Angels [First added to this chart: 02/13/2011]

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 83.2/100, a mean average of 81.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 82.8/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 14.8.

I like your Chart: Lot`s of good classical albums with a prog rock focus, some interesting rarities.

Oh, YES. Porcupine Tree at #1! Thank you, that made my day.

(BTW, instead of creating a 1-album-per-band chart, you may want to consider listing your favourites in order and using the decade and year charts to show all the other music you like).

The basics: covered. the past: covered. the present: covered. prog rock: a favorite. Solid representation of rap, punk, indie, metal, hard rock and other genres. A great chart. Love the commentary. The last 40 deserve the same treatment as the first 60. And don't apologize for liking a popular album. Sometimes bands get good pr. Sometimes an album is just great.

I like the fact that you seem to have a genuine love for music, even though there are plenty of albums on your chart I fail to see the greatness of.
