The perfect blend of progressive rock and flamenco roots, El patio is masterfully arranged and incredibly cohesive. The obscure lyrics, written at the end of Franco's dictatorship, have multiple readings and are as resonant today as they were forty years ago. It's just an unbelievably powerful record.

And to keep up with the subject of flamenco fusion, let's talk about Rosalía, probably Spain's biggest musical export in decades. El mal querer has thematic scope, great lyricism, powerful vocal performances and a very unique production. Los Angeles is good, but here, Rosalía created a sound that is unmistakably hers. A fantastic album.

Borrowing from progressive, symphonic and hard rock and crowned by Iniesta's beautiful lyrics and passionate vocals, La ley innata is consistently engaging, dynamic and, in my opinion, Extremoduro's best effort to date. If by any chance anyone from this website is interested in diving into Spanish rock music, this album is a great place to start.

In the microcosm of Spanish music, Veneno is the equivalent of the Banana album. Mostly ignored when it came out, it has gradually earned unanimous praise, and it's now recognized as one of the most influential albums in the history of Spanish rock music. The guitar playing is insanely upbeat and inventive, the lyrics are subversive, filled with an acid stray attitude and sometimes getting close to surrealism, while Kiko's singing is both playful and defiant at the same time. It wasn't love at first listen, I must admit, but this peculiar, unique record hasn't stopped growing on me over the years, and even though it got a whole lot of imitators, its quality is yet to be matched.

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 12% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 87.6/100, a mean average of 86.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 87.8/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 11.8.

Your notes are something to be truly proud of even if the picks are a little *ahem* safe. Great mix of classics young and old - would be nice to see some jazz sneak in :)

Hola, I really like your chart. It is a really good mix of decades and genres. I recognised and have many of the albums and on many occasions have similar favourite tracks you mention and equally also don't love some you call out.
I especially love your comments throughout and I actually read them all because they were so interesting and personal.
Unfortunately I am struggling with your number 1 - it's just not landing with me (yet?).

There are a number I have on my list for later listening and I'll come back later to check some of your other picks that I don't know.

Given some of your choices I was maybe a little surprised that Bon Iver never made it - but hey there is only room for 100. But if you haven't heard them give them a listen especially For Emma Forever Ago. You might also like Sigur Ros - very ethereal and electronic.
