Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by dfulfo01

I've only been listening to music for the past few years so my list is made up of very recent albums.

Artists make music for the time they're in and the things are experiencing now, not people who will be around in 50 years. And yes music is timeless, but i feel more of a connection with the artists in my generation making music for my time. Hope you find something new you enjoy.

*currently going through the 70s, 80s and 90s. Found some good stuff. The most incredible albums i've listened to so far are starting to creep onto my chart. If you have any suggestions hit up the comment section. peace.

If I could just leave my body for the night

MPP excites the senses. The first time I listened (also my first exposure to Animal Collective) I didn't really get it, it seemed like a lot of unnecessary noise that took too much effort to listen to. The 'noise' was disorienting, but when I quit trying organize it and allowed it to wash over me, Merriweather Post Pavilion became the most enjoyable album I have ever listened to.

I went out to pick a fight with anyone

The only music i heard growing up was my mom playing hymns on the piano. My parents didn't ever listen to music, not even the radio, and all I ever did was play sports. In the ninth grade at my first girlfriends house, she played me Funeral. That night my eyes were opened to what music was and what it could be, and I also had my first kiss! Funeral has never let me down, and continues to get better with every listen.

Wear it out til it feels right

It isn't right to sit around and think about the awful things that get you down
You've gotta try to wear a smile no matter how hard it can be to do
I could make myself go crazy crying over times I've chased my broken dreams
But what is life without a dream and even I know dreams can still come true

All we gotta do is be brave and be kind

The best way I can describe Alligator is "everyday heartbreak". It's not elaborate or exaggerated at all, it's simple and very familiar. I think it's the familiarity amplified by the swirling guitars, soft plucks, and subtle strings that makes this album so particularly moving. We all know heartbreak, and not the kind of heartbreak we hear on popular radio; everyday heartbreak is felt by all, realized by few, and scarcely remedied. But hey, we know it, we own it, now look at me baby, we'll be fine.

Cover me in cold light

Logos is breathtaking. Bradford Cox writes so beautifully and uses his ambient, experimental, punk rock so effectively in bringing it to life. I realize this may sound ridiculous, but the way I hear the album I can't help but picture it's conception. He never sat down with the intention of writing a song about something he was thinking or feeling or trying to convey to someone, but rather Logos came alive as he played and it pulled out of him all that was necessary for it to be what he needed it to be. Ridiculous I know, and maybe it's just me, but there isn't much to say about Logos. It speaks for itself.

I don't know what I should be lookin' at, but I will look wherever I'm told

This album was hard to listen to at first, which kept me away from it for a while. A friend of mine described it as a "counter-intuitive" listening experience, and I think he nailed it. Unlike the majority of music out there, Bitte Orca throws you off, then draws you back in by simply not progressing the way you think it should progress. This was uncomfortable at first, but once I was familiar with the album, it quickly became one of the richest and most rewarding listening experiences I've had to date. I feel like Bitte Orca isn't even fully realized by the people who love it most, including myself. It's the real deal.

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 86.8/100, a mean average of 86.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 86.9/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 9.6.

Some good stuff, although it is heavily biased towards modern times. I get what you're talking about with relating more to modern artists, but still. I'd make the argument that most music isn't personal enough to depply relate to anyway, regardless of when it was made. Also, there's lots of great music out there regardless of lyrical content.

Anyway, love to see Age of Adz get recognition! It deserves it.

Nice chart, It's very similar to mine, a lot of new music and a couple choice albums from previous decades. We even have some of the same older ones (self-titled albums from The VU and The Femmes are both so good)

You seem to know a lot of the new Music, so I'll suggest a couple older ones. Disintegration by The Cure, and The Queen is Dead by The Smiths are two of my favorites, give em a try.

Also, I recently bought Lonerism and Halcyon Digest which were two of your favorites, and I love them both. They will probably find a place on my chart shortly.

No Monominia from such big fan of Deerhunter/Atlas Sound :/
I agree that Old is not a hip hop masterpiece but for a 19 tracks album he maintained a constant quality track after track, that's what impressed me about it.
