If The BEA Overall Chart Had A One Album Per Artist Rule...
by Romanelli

I made this chart 10 years ago...figured it was time for an update. I absolutely do not agree with the concept of allowing one album per artist on my chart...I believe that doing so omits a large number of albums that are among the 100 best from being shown and correctly counted simply because one only wants to show one per artist. I believe that this kind of chart is what custom charts was created for...but it shouldn't be ones overall chart. That's just my opinion.

With that said. this is what the BEA Overall Chart top 100 would look like if there was a one album per artist rule. Why? Because it's an interesting exercise. The number in the album comments is where the album sits as of today in the actual BEA Overall Chart. Note that when I did this in 2015, album #100 (All Things Must Pass by George Harrison) was at #155 on the actual overall chart.

Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 2% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 91.0/100, a mean average of 91.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 92.2/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 10.3.

It’s a great chart. I also don’t subscribe to the one album per artist rule but it does make for an interesting chart.

I produced something similar for my top 400 a few years back. Thinking that it also probably needs a refresh

Beatles' revolver. yes. off course.

Arcade fire are not my cup of tea… and i tried a few times. but its destined not to happen :D

Petsounds. yep yep yep yep!

I wasnt expecting in the aeroplane over the sea to chart so high. it is indeed a great album with a superb inner force.

The first doors album… from the moment that i started to smoke weed & hash when i was young to the sober & happy nowadays me i've always admired them. brilliant band.

I still have not invested time in exile on main street. i'm starting to in the rolling stones post-60s discog.

Besides the top 20, what's going on is my favorite album of the past year, i have a very friendly relation with after the gold rush :), started to ear modest mouse's music very recently, fleet foxes s/t and joni mitchell's blue are two beautiful albums, lou's transformer makes part of my life, a love supreme does too and american idiot? what? :D

Kudos for rising to the challenge of one album per artist... we have quite similar taste... 26 artists the same... my chart would look even more like this if I limited myself to one album per artist...
